increase import duties for electronic goods from china to 500%. The govt does not even know that china is using currency to dump billions and billions worth of electronics goods into india.

I can understand buying rafales from france but not batteries from china. china is devastating our market.

Interesting article.
Amazon is a company that has come out with some great product offerings and then managed to trash those offerings in a way that never fails to disappoint me.
Once my favorite way to buy books, their website then lost its focus and tried to sell me clothes and kitchen appliances whenever I logged on. Any semblance of customer intimacy disappeared as they re-made themselves as an electronic Wal-Mart.
Then came the Kindle – I loved it. While I still think my Kindle is cool, Amazon obviously doesn’t. How am I supposed to feel about that? I sense that what I once found as a great way to buy books and magazines is headed for the dumpster, thanks to the same people who invented it.
I also love my iPad and have no problem owning both devices. But until iTunes starts to sell refrigerators, I will firmly believe that Apple knows what I want while Amazon just doesn’t believe it.

Pete, can't say I agree on your logic. To me customer-centricity doesn't necessarily imply single-purpose ereader product. my family includes many serious readers. some of old style kindle. one has fire. two have ipads. all are serious readers, but that doesn't mean they only read books -- they are consuming the internet, emails, games, videos, etc., along with their traditional book/magazine reading. Amazon may be VERY customer centric in responding to the diverse needs of their reading customer base. by sticking to ereaders only they might have doomed themselves to a dwindling niche. only time will tell. (and we shouldn't confuse burning through cash -- a business model issue -- with addressing customer needs)

According
to me, mobile payment is already a game changer. Yes! Just see how
Pizza Hut has managed to increase their sales number, and generate
high revenues utilizing mobile commerce as a platform. In general,
what we all look for? Simple, and easy way to live. If we get an
option to purchase products online, and make mobile payment, then
obviously we will enjoy. What do you say? I know there is a long way
to go for mobile commerce industry. Security, convenience,
accessibility, and trust are some of the key areas to consider while
opting for mobile payment. Let
us hope for the best! Can't we?

One suggestion on what not to do is to eliminate or severely cut raises, including those associated with promotions, for most employees but give senior management and executives large raises or bonuses. Its a pretty poor bonus structure when its possible to hit all targets yet the business is struggling enough that raises must be cut or eliminated for most employees. Employee loyalty is also diminished when a company says that executives did not receive raises either, although technically true due to salaries being the same, but awards increased stock options instead.

He plays "the game" better than you or I and he wasn't born with a silver spoon. Don't hate him for that. He did not create banking and finance, it's just another of the world's oldest professions and it's legal.

Being no where near his corporate echelon, I hate middle and upper management more for not sharing the wealth within the industries that I have worked in. Why was it I always worked for a boss, who didn't do much more than I, yet earned more than twice what I earned; come review time there was never a chance for advancement much less a raise above 2%. The only period over which my salary increased was 1995 through 2000 during the tech boom and before 9/11. For a brief time there was Camelot and I had generous bosses who appreciated the level of service that I provided.

At least Goldman shares the wealth it garners with the workers via bonuses and decent salaries and benefits.

On Blankfein -- he gets no kudos from me. The Human Rights Campaign puts him in front of a camera, has him read a few lines, and I'm supposed to forgive his financial destruction of America for it?

No. Blankfein has too much to answer for.

Let's start with all that money he made while bearing a large responsibility for the financial crash. If he is such a supporter of LGBT rights, let's see him donate a few million to support the referendum for marriage equality in Maine. Plus, a few million to fend off the expected ballot challenge against marriage equality in Washington state.

Put your vast money where your mouth is, Mr. Blankfein. Otherwise, I'm not interested in your personal pinkwashing.

Dog on a diet is one of my favorites as well. I am an alumni SUNY and loved spending time with my social psychology teacher Dr. Arlene Stillwell to discuss ads and their relevance.

I now live in Canada and the Super Bowl ads are not even close to what it is the USA so now I go searching the internet for reviews and the ads themselves. When I first saw dog on a diet Monday morning I immediately saw the appeal it would have on the audience being that healthy living is now such a huge industry.

Thanks for this post it helped me get my fix for the good advertisements and those that were not so great.

Cheers!

I think companys like Telenor, MTS will work an inhouse plan for future. They will be in india I am sure .It is not right to spell them out . They have given a new tech in industry, Like DMS, HHT ect . Telenor has best Distibution system in prepaid system. They are takeing care even KAM/ RSE Salary also for better ROI for DTR. MTS is none for Best DTR On Time Payment. When ever is new we must take . Every one must have equal market to work .

Totally agree with you, Bob. Tablets are for those who like to email, web-surf, and play games. Serious readers prefer the easier on the eye and pocket book older version kindles. I have every kindle version EXCEPT the fire. I don't have the Nook or anything that resembles a tablet or has a screen that is hard to use to read. I don't use my kindle(s) to web-surf, just read books. Amazon made a mistake and should go back to the Kindle roots.

Perhaps, but serious readers still currently highly regard the dedicated e-ink reader for its smaller lighter form factor, superior power management, and of course lower price. For simply reading, especially for long periods (even outdoors in the full sun), their is no better substitute.

Can the e-ink e-reader be improved? Well the basic functions for reading are already there in the current models of e-ink readers. Little improvement can really be made to these basic reading devices, it seems to me, other than speed and memory capacity. Sure, other new features will inevitably be added. But if it doesn't enhance the actual reading experience, most serious readers will not be swayed to pay extra for those features. If you want to do more than read, get a tablet.

Tablets are great for web browsing and other forms of entertainment. But for pure reading enjoyment, the smaller e-readers are still better on your eyes and your pocket book.

If a higher salary doesn't necessarily increase a worker's motivation or job satisfaction, why are such high salaries paid to executives? They have far more autonomy, mastery and purpose than those beneath them, so they should be satisfied with much less, no? I think these arguments about salary don't hold much water. They are used to make oneself feel better about the stagnant wages of employees.

Greece needs to change the laws regarding permanent employment of public servants. THis needs to be abolished. Tax collection needs to ENFORCED by government staff not outsourced as has just happened. The curret crop of politicians need to be dismissed and a new generation needs to be put in place.
1. Tax collection needs to happen and fast.Passports need to be seized and sold at public auctions.
2. A Land Titles office needs to be set up and operationg hours needs to be changed to 9am to 5pm daily and no lunchtime siesta..
3. A Central Government department needs to be setup for licensing of trades and professionals with licence fees.
4. Strata complexes need to have Building insurance and this should be forced on all Body Corporates within Greece.
5. Courts need to hear more cases and new gaols need to be built..
Unless Greece implements chnages nothing will happen as that is what happens in Greece..and give a new guy a chance..They are useless...

Better late than never.
Benz, BMW, Audi & Harley Davidson . . . all are doing more than they expected.
Starbucks will have 20% CAGR over a decade.
